Are you queer, trans, non-binary, takataapui, intersex, LGBTQIA+, MVPFAFF, or questioning? Have you accessed any mental health support in Aotearoa? (For example, counsellors, psychologists, psychiatrists, or therapists) Are you aged 14 or older?
The Youth '12 survey of 8,500 secondary school students in NZ showed 1.2% identified themselves as transgender. With a population of 4.693 million, 1.2% = 56,316 trans people in NZ. A further 2.5% reported being unsure of their gender. Make the spaces you are in be safe spaces to come out.
Last week we joined other takataapui and rainbow community orgs and met with Wellington's Mayor Justin Lester and the Wellington City Council city planners, to talk about how to make Wellington more rainbow friendly.
Please take time this weekend to fill in the Counting Ourselves survey that we helped to develop, so we have large scale national data on takataapui, trans, and intersex people's health.

loria Fraser is conducting amazing and solid research into the experiences of queer and trans people accessing mental health services. Her research was developed collaboratively with Gender Minorities Aotearoa and consulted on widely across trans community workers, organisations, and other experts. We completely endorse this research, and invite you to come along and hear all about it.
The groundbreaking report on experiences of sexual violence amongst tertiary students from Thursdays in Black Aotearoa is out. The report, 'In Our Own Words', is the first fully gender minority inclusive research report on sexual violence in this country.
The centre for sexual scientific research - which included many transgender staff - was the an international pioneer in advocating homosexual and transgender civil rights. It also advocated women's rights, sex education, contraception, STI clinics.
