The older technique was Penile Inversion, newer is the Sigmoid Colon technique, and even newer are techniques such as Suporn and Chettawut use which involve using the scrotal skin as the vaginal lining, while the penile tissue is used for the vulva, maximising sensation.

Surgeries chosen by adult intersex individuals may be similar to one of the above, or may be different. There are also a number of non-binary individuals who choose to keep their original genitals in some form, and additionally have surgery to add a penis or a vagina.
