The simplest way to obtain identification with your chosen name and sex marker


1. First, change the name on your NZ birth certificate by statutory declaration.

2. Then, use your new birth certificate to obtain a NZ passport. The sex marker on your passport can be changed by statutory declaration. You can choose the marker M, F, or X (unspecified).
